The New Visions Good to Go Contest
Who will win $1,000? COME TO THE G2G TALENT SHOW EXTRAVAGANZA TO FIND OUT... AND WATCH ALL THE FINALISTS PERFORM! We'll see you Tuesday, March 8 at Madison Square Garden from 6 to 9 p.m. A BIG thanks to all our G2G students for your incredible work on this contest.
Entries may be in one of the following four categories:
1. Film/Video: A three- to five-minute film written, produced and starring students attending a New Visions school. Entries must be visually and audibly clear and support the value of being career and college ready. Submit entries in a video format.
2. Song: A three- to five-minute song, for which both music and lyrics are written, produced and performed by a student or students attending a New Visions school. Entries must be audibly clear and support the value of being career and college ready. Submit entries in either an audio or video format.
3. Artwork: A drawing, painting or sculpture (including but not limited to pottery, stained glass, metal work, ceramics and mosaics) made by a New Visions student or students. Submit video of artwork and artist describing why the work represents the meaning of G2G.
4. Essay, editorial, speech or poem: A 1,000 to 1,500-word manuscript written and delivered by a student attending a New Visions school. Writing must support the value of being career and college ready and must be read by the student. Submit either a video or audio file to enter. Finalists may be asked to submit a manuscript before winners are chosen.
Eligibility
• Open to all New York City public high school students who attend New Visions schools.
• Every student under the age of 18 appearing in a photo or video must have a parent-signed media release form on file at his or her school.
To Enter
• Upload an audio or video file along with a description of your project, telling us why being college and career ready is important to you, your family or your school.
• Your project will be reviewed and posted within 24 hours. A submission will be disqualified if it includes words or imagery that are sexually charged or suggestive, depict acts of violence or cruelty, attack or disparage or present in a false light any individual or group of people, or are otherwise vile, inappropriate or uncivil.
• Deadline for submission of entries: 11:59 p.m. Feb. 13, 2011.
Judging
• Online voting opens Feb. 14, 2011, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Feb. 21, 2011.
• The official contest judges, made up of professionals related to each of the six categories, will then select three winners from among the top 10 vote-getters in each category, based on the criteria below:
- Relevance of entry to the meaning of G2G (50 percent);
- Overall creativity (30 percent); and
- Performance/presentation (20 percent).
Winner Notification
• New Visions will notify the winners on or about March 1, 2011.
• The top three prize winners in each category will be notified via e-mail to the address provided during entry, with follow-up information regarding the required live performance scheduled March 2011.
• Winners must respond to their e-mail notification with completed participant forms within seven days of receipt or be disqualified. If the completed documentation is not received within those seven days, an alternate winner will be selected.
• Winners must agree to attend the G2G kickoff event and celebration where each winning entry will be presented.
- Films will be shown on a large screen.
- Songs, skits and dance acts will be performed live.
- Essays must be read live before the audience.
- Artists must describe why their work represents the meaning of G2G. (Other art entries will be prominently displayed throughout the theater.)
• If multiple students submit a winning entry, they must evenly split the prize money.
Limitation of Liability
New Visions is not responsible for late, lost, stolen, misdirected, damaged, incomplete or illegible entries, or entries that are lost due to computer, Internet or electronic malfunction. New Visions reserves the right to cancel or modify the contest and award the prizes through an alternate means if unforeseen circumstances prevent the live event from taking place. Entrants agree that New Visions, the sponsor, its promotion partners, related companies, agencies and their respective employees or officers shall not be liable for injury, losses, damages or costs of any kind resulting from participation in this contest. By entering, participants agree to be bound by these official rules.
